The first half of JC1 moves faster than anyone tells you.

Orientation takes a few weeks. CCA selection takes another. Then school settles into a rhythm that's genuinely different from secondary school — lectures that assume you'll fill in the gaps yourself, topics stacking before the previous ones feel solid, and a social life you're figuring out simultaneously.

You were busy. You were adjusting. That's what JC1 does.

By the time the June holidays arrive, many JC1 students have a working grasp of the content — but not the kind of command you need to walk into a promo paper with. The Microeconomics topics are harder than they looked in secondary school — and without structured econs tuition, most students find the essay requirements catch them off guard too. And the promotional exams are approaching faster than the calendar makes them feel.

This is a normal JC1 experience. The question isn't how it happened — it's what you do about it in the months you have left. ETGexpedite was built specifically for this window — it is the only JC Economics tuition programme in Singapore designed around the exact May-to-September arc of JC1 promos.

Every grade problem traces back to the same three stages.

Whether you're trying to pass promos, hit a B, or push for an A — the path forward runs through the same framework. What changes is where you're starting from.

Most students who struggle in Economics aren't struggling at all three stages equally. Some have shaky content — and it shows up everywhere. Some understand the concepts well enough but lose marks every time they sit down to write. Some are already getting Bs and Cs but can't break through that ceiling no matter how much they revise. The stage you're stuck at tells you exactly where to focus. The three stages below are a diagnostic, not a destination. Find where you are. That's where we start.

Stage 1 — The Foundation

Content. But not the way you think.

If you're finding that your answers feel thin, that you run out of things to say, or that diagrams and concepts don't quite stick together — this is where the gap is. And it's the most common starting point for JC1 students joining mid-year.

Economics is not a memorisation subject. You have to genuinely understand the concepts, and some of them are legitimately hard. Firms and Decisions. The diagrams. Market Structures. Market Failure. These aren't things you can brute-force with highlighted notes and rote repetition. Students who struggle to pass promos are almost always stuck here — not because they aren't working, but because they've been trying to memorise their way through a subject that demands understanding.

At ETG, we don't train you to memorise model answers. We teach you to understand why things work the way they do. When you join ETGexpedite, content is covered extensively through weekly lessons and the 26 recorded lessons you have full access to from day one.

Stage 2 — The Expression Gap

Application. The gap between knowing and showing.

If you understand the content but your grades aren't reflecting it — sitting somewhere in the D to C range and not moving — this is almost certainly where things are breaking down. You can explain a concept to a friend. But sit down in front of an exam question and something doesn't translate. Points are asserted without explanation. Causal links are missing. The examiner writes "lacks rigour" and you don't know why, because you thought you understood it.

This isn't an intelligence problem. It's a skill problem — and skills require training, rehearsal, and repeated exposure to the right kinds of questions. You need to learn how to structure arguments, how to state and explain causal links, how to interpret data and dissect what a question is actually asking.

This is exactly what we work on in ETGexpedite. The weekly graded homework programme gives you a structured feedback loop: submit your essay or CSQ, get a worked solution, receive personal marking with specific comments on where you lost marks and why.

Stage 3 — The Precision Ceiling

Evaluation. What separates one grade from the next.

If you're already getting Bs and Cs and want to push higher — or if you're aiming for an A and it keeps slipping — this is the stage to focus on. Your content is solid. Your application is competent. But your evaluations aren't landing.

A-Level Economics questions are always grounded in real context: current events, policy debates, market realities. The students who score higher are the ones who can engage with that context meaningfully — not just reproduce rehearsed evaluation paragraphs. Many students do exactly that: copy a template evaluation, paste it in, and hope for the best. Examiners can tell. We teach you how to write evaluations that are responsive, reasoned, and genuinely impressive. Not cut-and-paste conclusions, but arguments that show you understand what's actually happening in the economy.

"Content gets you in the door. Application earns you marks. Evaluation decides whether you walk out with an A."

Mr Eugene Toh.

B.A. Economics (NUS). M.Sc. Applied Economics (SMU). 19 years teaching A-Level Economics in Singapore. 19 cohorts coached. Author of the H1 and H2 TYS answer keys published by SAP — the books many students study from — as well as the 50 Model Micro Essays and 50 Model Macro Essays series (Shing Lee and SAP editions), available at Popular bookstores.

Mr Toh still personally teaches every cohort. He marks essays, replies to student WhatsApp messages — including late at night — and updates teaching materials every term. The 24/7 access to him is real, not a marketing line.

For ETGexpedite students specifically: every mock promo paper is designed with the same rigour Mr Toh brings to his published work. The feedback you receive on each script is personal, specific, and actionable.

ETGexpedite is a structured JC1 promo revision programme offered by ETG (Economics at TuitionGenius), a specialist A-Level Economics tuition centre in Singapore that has been operating since 2007. It is designed specifically for JC1 students in the May-to-September window — the months between mid-year and the promotional examinations.

The programme is suitable for students across the full grade spectrum: those who need to pass promos to promote, those aiming for a B or C as a stepping stone to JC2, and those targeting an A. The core components — 26 recorded lessons, weekly live classes, graded homework, and 4 mock promotional exams — are structured to address whatever stage a student is stuck at.

ETG is a specialist centre — it teaches A-Level Economics only. Every lesson, resource, and tutor is dedicated entirely to one subject. The founder, Mr Eugene Toh, personally teaches every cohort, marks student work, and is directly reachable by students via WhatsApp.

Mr Toh is also the published author of the H1 and H2 Economics Ten-Year Series answer keys (SAP) and two model essay books sold at Popular bookstores — so the materials students receive at ETG come from the same mind that produced the reference texts many students across Singapore study from. ETG also publishes its whole-cohort A-rate results (74% for the Class of 2025) with transparent caveats about methodology, rather than showing only top-scorer highlights.

No — this is one of the core design features of ETGexpedite. Regardless of when you join, you receive immediate access to all 26 recorded lessons conducted from January to June. These are organised by topic and available on demand through the LMS. You are not starting behind; you have the same content every student who joined in January received.

Many students use the June holiday period to work through the catch-up recordings at their own pace — some systematically by topic, others in a hyper-focused block revision style using the textbooks and recordings together. Both approaches work well.

Starting June, ETG runs a weekly graded homework cycle. Most weeks, students receive either an essay set or a case study question set. Students attempt it under their own conditions, submit it, and receive two things in return: a PDF worked solution and a personally marked script with specific written comments explaining where marks were lost and why.

At many other econs tuition centres in Singapore, this kind of session counts as a paid lesson. At ETG, it is included as part of the programme — because the feedback loop between attempting, being marked, and reviewing a worked solution is one of the most direct drivers of grade improvement.

All weekly live classes are available both onsite and via Zoom livestream. Onsite locations include Coronation Plaza (Bukit Timah), Kovan, Upper Thomson, and Pasir Ris. Students can switch between modes freely — there is no commitment to one format.

ETG has been running online classes since 2018, before it became the industry norm. All live sessions are recorded and uploaded to the LMS, so students who miss a class due to school commitments or other reasons do not lose access to that lesson. Zoom students receive the same hard copy materials as onsite students, couriered to them directly.

ETG's whole-cohort A-rate for the Class of 2025 was 74%. This is a whole-cohort figure — it includes all students who sat for A-Level Economics under ETG, not a curated selection of top performers.

ETG is deliberate about publishing this caveat: cohort results are subject to response bias (not every student reports their result) and selection bias (students who seek specialist econs tuition in Singapore may already be more motivated than the general population). Over 19 years, ETG's long-run distinction rate across all cohorts is approximately 65%. For H1 students and students from top JCs, the A-rate has consistently exceeded 90%.

It is not too late. Students at the D and E range are typically stuck at Stage 1 or Stage 2 of the three-stage framework ETG uses — either the conceptual foundations are shaky, or they understand the content but cannot translate it into marks on a script. Both are fixable with structured teaching, repeated practice, and a proper feedback loop.

The 26 recorded lessons provide the content foundation; the weekly graded homework builds the application skill. Students who have made substantial grade jumps at ETG — including students who went from E at mid-years to an A at A-Levels — typically describe the turning point as understanding how the exam actually works, not just knowing more content.

The Headstart Programme is ETG's post-promos programme that runs from October to December — the period between the end of JC1 promos and the start of JC2. It covers the Macroeconomics content that forms the bulk of JC2 work, so students who complete ETGexpedite and continue into Headstart begin JC2 with their foundations already in place rather than starting from scratch in January.

Headstart is included free with ETGexpedite — 16 lessons valued at $1,680. It is not a mandatory add-on; students can choose whether to continue after promos. But the students who do tend to report a noticeably smoother transition into JC2.

ETGexpedite is priced at $3,080 for the full programme. This covers 26 recorded lessons, ongoing weekly live classes from July to September, 4 graded mock promotional exams, the full hard copy materials library, unlimited consultations, and the Headstart programme. The total component value if purchased separately is $6,345 — or $7,585 for the first 30 registrations who also receive three bonus crashcourse programmes.

Students who prefer to pay by term rather than as a package can opt for ETG's regular tuition programme instead, without the 26 recorded lessons. For questions about financial assistance (25%–100% subsidies are available for eligible students), contact ETG's admin team via WhatsApp at +65 8121 6488 or apply confidentially via the financial assistance form on the ETG website.

For JC1 students specifically in the May-to-September promo preparation window, ETGexpedite by ETG Economics is the only programme in Singapore structured around this exact timeline. Most general JC Economics tuition centres enrol students on a rolling term basis without addressing the catch-up gap that accumulates in the first half of JC1.

ETGexpedite specifically addresses this through its three-layer architecture: catch-up recordings for content missed since January, live weekly classes to stay current, and a graded mock exam cycle that simulates the actual promotional examination. The programme is run by ETG, a specialist A-Level Economics tuition centre in Singapore with 19 years of operation, a 74% whole-cohort A-rate (Class of 2025), and over 500 verified reviews from students across RI, HCI, NJC, DHS, ACJC, CJC, and other JCs.

12 to 16 weeks before promos,
done right.

The promo exams aren't the end of the story — they're the foundation JC2 is built on. ETGexpedite gives you the structure to finish JC1 well, and the Headstart programme to begin JC2 ahead.

We're ready when you are.
